Odisha Tops India's Mining Economy, Holds 96% Chromite and 73% Bauxite Reserves
A report highlighted Odisha's dominant position in India's mining economy, accounting for approximately 14% of the country's total mining Gross Value Added (GVA) in FY2025. The state produces nearly 73% of India's bauxite with 17.5 million tonnes in FY2024, and contributes 100% of chromite production, holding 96% of national reserves. Odisha has also been found to possess the only proven Platinum Group Mineral (PGM) deposits in India. This mining dominance underpins the state's industrial growth, steel output, and revenue generation.
